In July 2006, like every year and to improve its services, ELDA (Evaluations and Language resources Distribution Agency) has conducted a survey on Language Resource needs.

For this purpose, six short open questions distributed via personalised emails were asked to our customers and partners. These questions aimed at finding out what should be done with respect to the identification and production of Language Resources, as well as ELDA services in general within two periods, i.e. within the next 12 months and within the next 12-36 months. We also addressed some questions dealing with the ELRA membership.

A total of 52 replies out of 554 contacts (about 9%) were received up till 30th September 2006.

Two open questions were asked:

1. What type of Language Resources will you need within the next 12 months?
2. What type of Language Resources will you need within the next 12-36 months?

A total of 50 replies out of 450 contacts (about 11%) were received by 31st December 2005.

From the various answers, we managed to draw up the following criteria

1. Typological and Geographical distribution of respondents
2. Types of Language Resources needed
3. Languages needed
